Northeast Creeking
NECreeking.com is a site designed for collecting data on exploratory runs done in the greater Northeast. There are a lot of us who search on the topo maps for the tiniest stream that might be runnable, and because there's no reliable source of data on which creeks have been checked out and which haven't, we've undoubtedly wasted a day or more looking at creeks that someone else has already discovered were too small, too steep, or just not there. So this site is supposed to be a database of creeks we've found in the Northeast, ideally allowing people to share their local micros and to warn people about creeks that aren't worth their time. Visitors can upload rivers and pictures, as well as comment on already uploaded rivers. Let me know if you've got any suggestions, and please! upload your rivers.
A quick note -- please make sure you include putin coordinates if possible when you're uploading (and in the right format!) so that the river will be displayed on the map, which seems like it could be a really useful feature.
New Rivers
- Upper Moose River, VT: Above Victory Bog, the East and West Branches of the Moose join to form the top section of the moose, which at that point is rather small. It is mostly class II-III except for 4-5 class IVs and a coo...
- Burgess Branch, VT: The Burgess Branch (of the Missiquoi) drains Belvidere, Tillotson & Haystack Mountains, just west of Lowell, VT where 100 & 58 intersect. The actual whitewater on it is very minimal (approx 3 decent ...
- Mink Brook, NH: Mink Brook is a tiny creek that runs during spring runoff (for a few weeks, this past year) just south of Hanover, NH. It's predominantly class II/III, but there's a lot of wood so I'd be worried brin...
- Hewes Brook, NH: Hewes Brook is a short class IV run in Lyme, NH. There are two possible putins. I've only run it from the lower one by turning off River Road and driving up the creek on something listed on Google Ear...
- Sterling Brook, VT: Sterling flows out of Sterling Valley and forms the East Branch of the Little river when it joins Moss Glen Brook on Stagecoach Road north of Stowe. Put in would be Sterling Ridge Road, off of Sterli...
PS -- for those wondering, the pictures in the banner from left to right are: me on the Blood Brook Ledges in West Lebanon, NH; Xavier Engle boofing Cave Drop on the Big Branch in Mt. Tabor, VT; the second Pond Brook in Northern NH (probably unrunnable -- that giant white thing in the background is a massive slide); Alfie Umbhau on Bloody Brook in Norwich, VT; and a number of boaters on the last drop of the Big Branch in Mt. Tabor.
